On last weekend’s visit to London, I wanted to check the Food department at Selfridges again, since I found a ‘godelicious’ collection of Amedei at this place recently. As expected the whole pile of the Italian Amedei luxury bars was gone (it would have been a shock if it were not), but what I found in place in the same small corner was even a superior surprise: Askinosie bars!
You never heard of them? No surprise, they are a US brand. Why did I get this fatal attraction? It’s the first time ever I find a US brand selling its artisan chocolate bars overseas, and as far as I know, it must be one of the first times ever in general. I found and bought the Soconusco bar of which I just heard via Shawn’s Askinosie Twitter account, and the Davao is surely also a bar to look forward to.
How different do they taste? Can’t tell you yet, I still have to taste them (and possibly compare with the Bonnat Xoconuzco), but will share with you soon

Its like finding treasure
I love the Soconusco bar but I do think the Davao Dark is my favorite. I have enjoyed everything I have tried thus far. Their white chocolate is also pretty amazing and their cocoa powder is beyond any that I have tried so far. I think you will enjoy it.
As a former Springfield, Missouri, resident, I can attest to the incredible flavor of Askinosie chocolate (centered in Springfield). The Davao bar is my favorite, and I highly recommend it.
Your both comments made me buy more Askinosie last weekend in London
I now also have the Philippines bar, I haven’t tried them yett but I’ll surely post on it!
I’m in Springfield, and was in the shop one day when they were making up their white chocolate. Apparently, they’re the only small chocolatier in the US that does so.
After tasting their white chocolate, I’ll never pick up a mass-produced bar again.
It’s not as good as their dark chocolate, but it’s better than anything else, at least in our local market.
